A.Jude Avelino is a partner of Avelino Law, LLP and the leader of its private client division. Jude’s experience in these areas has led to a diversified client base including closely-held businesses, individuals and families, and a variety of charitable organizations. He has particular skill and experience in navigating complex wealth retention issues in the context of estate planning, corporate structure, and tax matters. His clients benefit further from his experience as a transactional attorney and litigator.

After graduating from Fordham University with a degree in Political Science and Dean’s List honors, Jude attended Brooklyn Law School to obtain his J.D. He furthered his legal education at the Georgetown University Law Center, where he earned his L.L.M. in Taxation and a Certificate in Estate Planning. He began his career as a litigator at a New York City law firm, and then founded Avelino, LLP in New York City in 1999.

“I view my role as a partner and trusted advisor to my clients – whether they are closely-held businesses or individuals. The goal is to work together for a solution that ultimately benefits my clients on a professional and personal basis. I feel that my socio-economically disadvantaged background provided me with uncommon drive, and enables me to provide my clients with a unique and invaluable perspective.”

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Jude is heavily involved in his local community. He served for six years on the Board of Directors of Gilda’s Club, a charity developed in honor of the late comedienne Gilda Radner and dedicated to assisting survivors of cancer and their families. He was honored by Trial Lawyers Care for his pro bono work representing clients who were injured in the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Among his clients was the Acting Chief of Safety of the New York City Fire Department.

Jude also served on the Board of Trustees of the Overlook Foundation for six years, including two years as its chair, and was integral in raising funds and awareness for projects related to Overlook Hospital, located in the firm’s headquarters location of Summit, New Jersey. While mentoring special needs children in basketball clinics at the Summit Community Center, Jude co-chaired the fundraising committee that succeeded in raising the necessary capital for a major renovation of the Center, which serves not just the youth and special-needs population of Summit but the senior community as well. For his efforts he shared the Suburban Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award for 2018.

Jude is a member of the New York City Estate Planning Council; the Northern New Jersey Estate Planning Council; the Downtowners Association; and the Summit Bar Association.
